Hello everyone!
Today, we'll be covering 穴場. I was recently doom scrolling and I came across an account that was showcasing 穴場 spots in Chiba. I was very curious about the spots they were about to show, but more importantly, I was interested in what 穴場 translates out to.
After further research, I came across these words.
Hidden gem, hidden spot, hole in the wall, off the beaten path, best kept secret.
All of these words to mean the same thing but are used in different ways. Here are some examples for you to try out next time.
The Obitsu River in chiba is a
hidden gem where families can go to escape the summer heat and wade in the shallow flowing river. For those interested in micro-fishing, you can catch plenty of fish here.
Another
hidden spot is Aoba no Mori Park. It's located in Chiba city and has lots to offer seasonally. There flowers and trees to enjoy when in bloom and playgrounds and a splash area for children to cool off in the summer. Also, there is ample parking space, but it isn't free.
There is a really nice restaurant nearby. If you're too distracted by all the fancy lights around you, you'll miss it entirely. It's just
a hole in the wall. It's a plain wooden door between the izakayas. They serve delicious traditional Japanese dishes like seasonal grilled fish and foraged vegetables.
It's a bit
off the beaten path, but those who find this place always come back! You'll need a car, but you won't regret it. The service is great and the food is even better!
Chiba's
best kept secret is Chiba Minato. There are so many things to do here depending on the season and the station is also close by. Ocean Table, a restaurant with great reviews, is also very close by. There is also a museum, a very big park, access to the beach and an amphitheater.
