Hello everyone!
This week I'd like to talk about the relationship children have with bugs here in Japan compared to in the states.
Remembering my childhood and my friends at that time, I don't recall playing or catching bugs much. I do know the names of common garden bugs, but besides that I never gave them much attention.
In general, growing up in the states we weren't taught to notice or value the life of bugs as is done in Japan. I think young children are taught by parents and by teachers that all life is important. With the exception of mosquitos and cockroaches.
Here even the smallest of insects are generally well treated and not stomped on like we did when we were children in the states. Don't get me wrong though, there are children who like insects.
I think that's why more young children in Japan like bugs than young children in the states.
See you all next time!
