It was Independence Day yesterday in America or today if you're in America. A few days before this holiday and after, many Americans enjoy going to the fair. A fair is very similar to a festival in Japan. There are usually a handful of rides to enjoy or some games you can play for a cost and plenty of food to enjoy.
Today, I will be talking about food that is commonly sold at fairs back where I am from.
Generally, most of these food items can be found in grocery stores or can be ordered at a restaurant. Some of them, unfortunately, cannot be bought at the store nor can it be ordered at a restaurant. Others just don't taste as good as it would if you were to buy it at the fair.
Some of my favorites are deep fried cheese curds, kettle corn, funnel cake and corn dogs. They say the best and freshest cheese curds are ones that squeak when you chew on them. Unless you have a special shop in town that does popcorn, there aren't many places can make popcorn like the fair does. A bag of caramel popcorn is a welcome snack. Another great sweet snack is the funnel cake. Basically it is a deep fried doughnut topped with powder sugar, strawberries, and/or honey. The first two or three bites are always great, but I wouldn't finish one alone. Last but not least is the corn dog. I don't know what it is, but the supermarket or gas stations just can't top the fair corn dog. If you go, make sure to at least have a corn dog.
Here are some pictures of fair foods, including some of the ones I have mentioned above.
