When I first came to Japan a little more than a decade ago, I came across some very interesting food combinations. Some of them I will talk about below.
Normally in America, we put a hot dog or some type of meat in a bun, but here in Japan, I have seen yakisoba noodles in a hot dog bun. My assumption is that there are enough people that like it, therefore it continues to be sold. On the other hand, in America, many Americans are quite fond of P&J (peanut butter and jelly) sandwiches.
Another strange food combination is corn or broccoli on pizza. I don't mind eating it, but I would much rather to eat other vegetables on my pizza. I do understand that in America, we do enjoy pineapples on our pizza, but people from other countries find it odd.
What are some interesting, odd, or downright crazy foods you have come across whether it was in Japan or in another country?
