What is 田舎？

There are a few words that we can translate "田舎" to.

For me, growing up we would always say "in the country" or "in the countryside".

Occasionally, I would also say "in the boonies" or "in the boondoocks". All these examples are commonly used today in America.

Here are a few examples.

The other day, I actually saw two pheasants. It's probably because we live out in the country.

My cousins live out in the boonies. They love it there because noone bothers them.

There aren't many things to do in the countryside, besides bonding with nature.

I have always been a city boy. I wouldn't ever want to live in the boondocks.
