April Fool's Day is April 1st. What is it and what is the origin?

The origin of the holiday is uncertain, but some have said it may have been when France decided to switched the calendars from Julian to Gregorian in the 1500's. Because of this the start of the year changed from the April 1st to January 1st. Those who weren't aware of the change and celebrated the new year on April 1st were called fools. Hence the holiday, April Fool's Day.

There are many other speculations as to how the holiday started, but it is all uncertain.

Many people around the world now celebrate this holiday by doing practical jokes or pulling pranks on friends and family. Some even do it to co-workers and their bosses. Even well known companies and businesses have pranked the the general public by running false advertisements or printing fake news.

Nowadays with social media platforms everywhere, April Fool's pranks have gotten even easier to do. Many people post comments or pictures of them getting married or being pregnant and wait in the shadows for friends and family to comment only to find out it was all just a practical joke. In the end, the person guilty of the prank says, "April Fool's!". Most people laugh it off, some give a sigh of relief and a few get angry. All in all, it's a very casual holiday for people to have a little bit of fun.
