Simply said, yes it's important. But more important is listening and picking up the key words in a sentence or question.
簡単に言うと、大事です。しかし、もっと重要なのは、文章や質問のキーワードを聞いて拾うことです。

Catching the first word of a question is key to answering questions correctly.
質問の一番最初単語を聞き取ることがカギです。

Often many learners of English don't catch the first word of a question and because of that they answer the question incorrectly.
多くの人はその最初の単語を聞き取れないので質問に対して正しく答えられない。

Of course the second and third parts of the question also play key roles. Catching these words also lead to answering the question correctly.
もちろん二つ目と三つ目のキーワードを聞き取るのも重要です。このキーワードをキャッチ出来たら質問に正しく答えられます。

Once you're able to do this, the next part is to use a subject word and correctly conjugate the verb. Lastly, add the answer to the question that was asked and you're home free.
これが出来たら、次に主語をつけて、動詞を時制と人称に合わせた形に変えて、最後に質問されたことを付けて答えれば終わりです！

Now to go back and answer the first question. Is grammar important? Yes, it is. But it can be learned through listening and speaking. So why not learn grammar, listening and speaking all at the same time?
