There are many dishes in Japan that are unfamiliar to people who visit Japan. Here are some ways you can explain the foods above.
What is okonomiyaki?
Okonomiyaki is like a pizza. It is flour that is mixed with cabbage that is pan fried and topped with bonito flakes, fine seaweed flakes, mayonnaise, a Japanese style sauce called ソース(sauce).
What does it taste like?
In general it doesn't have much flavor until after it is topped. It tastes slightly sweet and tangy because of the ソース(sauce) and rich because of the mayonnaise. The bonito flakes and fine seaweed flakes also add a certain smoky seaweed aroma to the dish.
How do you eat it?
Most people eat it with chopsticks as it is. It is a common food found at festivals throughout Japan.
