Thanks again for stopping by! This week we will show you some ways to explain 🍱Japanese food🍱 to people visiting Japan.
Many of us grew up eating these foods and are very familiar with them. But can we explain what they are to people who have never seen or eaten them?🤔
Here are some examples.
お好み焼き Okonomiyaki
It's like a pancake, but it's not eaten for breakfast. It's usually eaten for lunch or dinner and is usually sold at festivals across Japan. It is sliced cabbage mixed in a flour batter that is pan fried. Some people put an egg and sliced pork belly on top of it. It is topped with a sweet and salty sauce, mayonnaise and seaweed flakes. Some people put bonito flakes on it as well.
長芋 Nagaimo
It's a vegetable tuber/root that has been mashed in a mortar. It's white and has a sticky texture. Many people put this on rice and add soy sauce for flavor.
ホルモン Horumon
Horumon includes organ meats, intestines and parts you wouldn't consider eating. Some of the parts included in this category are heart, liver, kidney, brain, feet, head, intestines, stomach and so on.
あんこ Anko
Simply said, anko is a sweet red bean paste. It is usually found in many Japanese sweets like daifuku or manju. But it can be eaten in jellied bars called youkan.
We hope this will help you in explaining more Japanese foods. See you again!
