There are many holidays that I like, but none as much as Thanksgiving. This holiday was originally a holiday shared between the Native Americans and the colonists to show thanks for the bountiful harvest.
Today, the meaning of the holiday is still the same. It is a holiday to get together with friends and family and to show how much we appreciate each other. During this holiday, people generally start cooking early in the day in preparation for the big feast at dinner. Some of the commonly eaten foods during this dinner includes, turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie. Depending on the family and background it can vary greatly. For example, my family in the states make a taco dip or corn-bean dip, eggrolls, deviled eggs, and sticky rice plus the common Thanksgiving foods.
Generally, right before we all dig in, everyone takes a turn and says what they are thankful and then we feast. After the dinner, the adults play board games or we do pictionary or charades while the children play with each other. Once we are all played out, we head to bed. Usually quite early considering the next day is BLACK FRIDAY!
What is your favorite holiday? How do you spend it? Are there any traditional things you do or eat on that day?
